Below are three artist handouts from my group's Nature Abstraction lesson. We used the Conceptual Frameworks and the Frames. The handouts contain historical and critical information, websites, questions, vocabulary, and suggestions for further study and art making. Rationale: The questions on these three handouts are thoughtfully constructed to encourage higher level thinking about the content and formal qualities of the work and how it relates to the artist's cultural background. LeRoy Arts Festival
Description:
I had the opportunity to teach at The LeRoy Arts Festival this year (2014). I co-taught a lesson on percussion instruments, which included a brief background with images at the beginning of the lesson to provide inspiration for ideas. After the introduction, we gave the students a piece of paper, markers, and colored pencils for a planning/sketching component of the project. Finally, with teacher help the students constructed drum/maracas and had freedom to draw with markers and/or colored pencils on their instruments. They were encouraged to use pattern and repetition in their drawings. After our station, the students moved on to the 'Interrelating the Arts' station, where they learned how to create sound and rhythm with their new works of art. Rationale: My participation in this event, shows my desire to gain teaching experience in various settings and my ability to collaborate with other teachers. Evidence: Above are images of me teaching at The LeRoy Arts Festival and some of the student work from the lesson.

The Boys and Girls Club
Description:
I was fortunate to go back to The Boys and Girls Club this semester (Spring '14) to help teach a painting lesson. The theme of the lesson was dreams, goals, or hopes for the future with a focus on illustrator, Shane Evans. I helped explain the objectives of the lesson to small groups, assisted with behavior management, and guided students in the planning stages of the project. I also helped setting up and organizing supplies and with clean up. Rationale: My volunteer experiences at The Boys and Girls Club demonstrate my ability to apply my knowledge of child development, specific to visual arts, when assisting children with their art projects, and it shows my efforts to grow as an educator. Evidence: Above is a photo from one of The Boys and Girls Club lessons.
